It was my honour and pleasure to participate in the inaugural MasterCard Emerging Leaders in Cyber Initiative. Module One – The Digital Threat Landscape.
I shared with the group some highlights (and lowlights) from my career at CSIS. In particular, how in Special Operations I witnessed first-hand the transition from traditional close access technical surveillance to remote access (what we might now refer to as ‘cyber attacks’). I discussed the challenges and risks of leading large teams to install covert recording devices and how the cost-benefit of these operations changed significantly with the explosion if internet connected devices all around us, and the unfortunate ease it is to access them. This is the growing challenge we all face and why initiatives like the ELCI are so important!
Thank you to Melissa Hathaway for your engaging conversation. To Trish Dyl, Charles Finlay and the entire Catalyst team for your invitation. And to the leaders. It was a privilege to spend time with you! Thank you for all that you do to keep us safe.
