On Thursday Oct 27th I was thrilled to be invited to join Shane Harris on the Washington Post Chatter Podcast to discuss what CSIS is, what it does and how it’s not quite the Canadian version of the CIA. We got into my experience in recruitment and training, and the work I ultimately did as an investigator and in special operations.
We also chatted about the process of getting the book published. As far as I know, my memoir – I Was Never Here – is the first by a former intelligence officer about the experience of working for CSIS. This presented a challenge when I wanted to get the manuscript “cleared”; there wasn’t a precedent and nowhere to really, officially, send it to be looked at. I used to joke that my second book will be written from prison. Everyone found that funny, except my wife.
